Although the highest parts of the mountains are still covered in a thick layer of snow and backcountry skiing and snowshoeing trips are still possible, conditions for mountain biking in the lower parts of some areas are great! April-May is an unique period of the year in Bulgaria as both winter and summer activities are possible – conditions for ski touring, snowshoeing, mountain biking, climbing and white water rafting are all good in the different parts of the countryside.
We’ve opened the mountain bike season with two trips around the town of Bansko – a day trip around the south parts of Rila Mountains, which are located north of Bansko, visiting the villages of Dobursko and Gorno Draglishte on the way. The second one was a day trip in the parts of Rhodope Mountains located north east of Bansko. Both routes offered great views to the snow covered peaks of Northern Pirin Mountains. To reach our starting point in Rhodopes we took the old narrow gauge railway which took us to the highest railway station on the Balkans – Avramovo station, located at more than 1200 m. above the sea level.
For the summer season of 2012 we are available to offer and guide you to a weekend, week long or with any other duration bike trips in the lower parts of Pirin Mountains, in Rhodope and Rila Mountains or any other preferred region in Bulgaria – just drop us an email with your preferences!
