The hidden gem just a few km outside of the capital of Bulgaria, offers amazing opportunities for daily ski tours and freeride. In good seasons when the snow cover descends all the way down to the outskirts of Sofia, it is quite possible to log more than a 1000 m of ascends and descends in good snow conditions, and traverse the mountain, descending to little known villages on the South and Western side of the Vitosha. Steep skiing in prime conditions is also a possibility in late winter – the Rezniovete couloirs can match any freeride area in Rila and Pirin. If you are in Sofia, the snow conditions are right, and you want to explore the hidden secrets of Vitosha, the options are limitless.
There are also good options for beginners, who seek introduction into the off-piste, ski touring and splitboarding. Vitosha is a “proper mountain” that has avalanche conditions and dangerous areas, therefore a good training site for avalanche safety basis.
